As flexible structure is widely used in space technology and IT manufacturing, control of inhibiting its vibration has become one of hot point problems. However, it's hard to achieve satisfying control effects using traditional control theories, due to the uncertainty of flexible structure model.Contraposing to the uncertainty of flexible structure model, this paper discusses its intelligent control methods by taking a set of flexible arm system as the research object. A Fuzzy-PI controller and an all-coefficient adaptive controller based on characteristic modeling is designed on the basis of vibration characteristics analysis of the existing system model, and optimized with smooth filtering, variable integral coefficient and nonlinear saturation. The simulation result shows that small steady-state error exists under the effect of the Fuzzy-PI controller, while both dynamic performance and steady-state performance are satisfying under the effect of the all-coefficient adaptive controller, which proves that the all-coefficient adaptive controller based on characteristic modeling can inhibit the vibration of flexible structure caused by external disturbance effectively, and is of high intelligence and good self-adaption.In experimental research of the flexible arm system, the all-coefficient adaptive approach based on characteristic modeling is realized and adjusted according to concrete conditions using VB language, and with satisfying control effects, which proves its feasibility and effectivity in the control of flexible structure.
