In this dissertation, the principle of acoustic-optical device has been used to achieve the fingerprint image matching.Firstly, the content and development of the biometric technology especially the fingerprint identification, has been introduced. Secondly, all aspects of the fingerprint identification (including fingerprint image preprocessing, feature extraction and fingerprint matching) have been studied ,and the corresponding function has been built by VC++ programming. The processes of fingerprint image preprocessing include image segmentation, pattern, image enhancement, binarization and image thinning.Recently, acoustic-optical technology develops quickly, and has the wide spread applications. In this dissertation, the theory and applications of acoustic-optical devices, especially the acoustic-optical correlator, has been presented. And acoustic-optical devices can solve the problems that the traditional methods have,having tremendous advantages on fingerprint matching.Through comparison, extract a few feature points. After Fingerprint has been extracted, turn them into the kind of time series. Then use the time-integrating acoustic-optical correlator for image matching. Finally, the effective coefficients of the matching has been validated and evaluated.By calculation, the fingerprint matching based acoustic-optical correlator could solve the problem of large-calculation capacity and time-consuming of other identification technologies. Acoustic-optical correlator has the characters of quick and multi-channel parallel computing, which help it have broad development prospects in the field of fingerprint identification.
