The article discussed the synthesis theory of the general Chebychev filters as well as the implementation of these filters, by investigating the synthesis method of the cross coupling network. Novel kinds of high performance microstrip filters is designed and implemented. For the problem of finding optimal transfer function of general Chebychev filter, the article proposed a new numerical method to determine the transfer function and its transmission poles and zeros, gaining both flexibility and speed. For the matter of acquiring the cross coupled network to fit the desired response, the paper suggested a new target function applied in the genetic algorism, achieving a fast and accurate acquisition of the coupling matrix. Numerical instances and experiment results are given to verify the validity of the algorism. The article also dissertated the study of minimization of microstrip resonators, which is divided into three aspects. First, the paper discussed the minimization methodology of open-loop resonators by introducing and investigating a new kind of defected structure, spur-line. Secondly, the paper presented technology of dual-mode resonator and suggested several kinds of dual-mode microstip resonator and its CAD method based on neuron-network. Thirdly, a novel shunt capacitive loading structure (SCLS) is proposed and analyzed to reduce the perimeter of loop filters. The three methods are applied to general Chebychev filter, obtaining a set of filter with good flexibility, simple design, high suppression in stop band and excellent selectivity.
