Peer-to-Peer (P2P) has become an important architecture for Internet applications for its reliability, inherent scalability and high performance. Among others, P2P-based distributed storage system is regarded as one of the most promising P2P applications, research of which is one of the hottest issues within academic circles. In current research on P2P-based distributed storage, P2P mainly refers to the organization form of storage nodes. When it comes to how users get resources from P2P-based distributed storage system, client/server architecture applies. Because users can provide service to each other by mutual data-transfer, this thesis tries to do some exploration on how to apply P2P to data-transfer between client nodes. On the basis of systematically analyzing and summarizing relevant works on P2P-based distributed storage system, the thesis designs a P2P distributed storage system, named PPDSS. In PPDSS, not only storage nodes are organized with P2P mode, client nodes that access to the same resource are also formed into a P2P network. Direct P2P-based data-transfer between client nodes can greatly improve performance of users'access to distributed storage system. Meanwhile, it provides a new angle for how to reduce burden on storage systems. From this point of view, the thesis presents a data flow control algorithm based on service ability of clients.Currently, research on P2P-based distributed storage hardly covers P2P data transmission between clients. In the thesis, some primordial attempts about P2P data transmission are presented. In order to exhibit how to implement P2P data transmission between clients, a few pieces of pseudo codes that can reflect client's implementation are attached to the thesis. Although system implementation is simple and related algorithms are not fully-fledged, tests prove that P2P data transmission and algorithms put forward by the thesis can dramatically improve performance of distributed storage systems.
