With the explosive increase of Internet traffic, customers call for the larger network capacity. The large capacity provided by WDM optical network is the best choice. But in WDM optical networks, there are some factors that degrade the signal quality when signals are transmitted in the physical layer. If optical signal can not be regenerated by Optic/Electric/Optic, connection requests will be blocked when the degradation is too severe. So transmission quality provision is very important. To assure transmission quality, more network resource is needed or some network performance is decreased, so it is valuable to study how to optimize Routing and Wavelength Assignment(RWA) algorithm with transmission quality provision in optical network. This paper is focused on two popular optical network: Transparent optical network and Translucent optical networkIt is presented that network connection fairness is decreased while transmission quality is provided by impairment-aware RWA algorithm in transparent optical networks. Connection fairness problem means that the blocking performance of long paths is worse than short paths when network condition is same. To solve this problem, novel wavelength assignment algorithms are presented in this paper. The ring network is chose in translucent optical network in this paper and there is signal regeneration ability at intersections. lightpaths computed by RWA algorithm with signal regeneration is easier to satisfy transmission quality, but it is expensive to regenerate signal quality. To minimize the regeneration cost, novel RWA algorithms based on the ring network is presented in this paper, by which the number of rings passed by lightpaths is minimized. All of algorithms presented above are simulated and their performance is compared with other normal algorithms. A lot of simulation data indicates that algorithms presented in this paper are satisfying.
