Satellite communication, as the inherent advantages, will become a crucial part in the universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), and slso it will play a significant role in the Global Information Infrustructure (GII). Now that Internet is flourishing at current tiem, the next generation brandboard satellite network should consider supporting the IP-based application as its first choice, at the basis of providing traditional voice application. This paper mainly focuses on the topology strategy of satellite network and simulation paltform building. It is divides into 5 chapters, and the session from Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 is the most important part, which gives a detailed description of author's research work during the period of postgraduate.Chapter 1 is the preface, which introduces the development of satellite communication, the segments and the categories of satellite systems. And introduces the development, status and perspective of the satellite communication. And the last part is the arrangement of whole dissertation.Chapter 2 researches establishment of Inter-Satellite Links, analyzes the topological dynamics of satellite networks and proposes a novel topology establishment method by Extending the Length of Snapshot Topology Strategy, ELSTS. Then the simulations are done on topological dynamics of both Globalstar and Iridium system, and the results show that ELSTS can increase the mean snapshot length and properly decrease the number of snapshots.Based on the chapter two, we design the satellite network routing algorithm and wireless link model, a network simulation platform has been developed using OPNET tool. Chapter 3 describe the node model, process model and link model in OPNET simulation platform.Satellite-Ground link handover schemes alse studied and their performances are alse compared. The satellite commnication performance and scenario with failed satellite are tested. To show the topological dynamics of satellite networks and satellite network routing, a demonstration platform is builded, which is described in chapter 4.Chapter 5 is summary of whole dissertation, mainly introduces the progress that author made during the period of postgraduate.
