As a technique to focus signals both temporally and spatially, time reversal (TR) was first applied in acoustics, and in recent years it was introduced into wireless communication field. Due to the focusing property both in time and space, if TR is applied to ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication, it will tremendously reduce the delay spread, reduce inter-symbol interference, increase the information transmission rate, improve the signal-to-noise ratio, reduce the co-channel interference, increase the capacity of the channel, and realize low-cost, secure communications. So TR-UWB wireless communication has attracted a lot of researchers.This thesis comprehensively investigates the advances on TR technique in UWB wireless communication systems and develops a TR-UWB wireless transmission experiment platform, and then experimentally studies the TR-UWB wireless transmissions under the dense multipath environment in time domain. The results suggest that it can manage to perform a high data rate UWB wireless transmission.Chapter 1 firstly introduces the development history, problems to be solved and present solutions of UWB wireless communications. Then the development and the unique advantages of TR technique are introduced. And the advances on TR-based multi-antenna UWB wireless communication systems are also investigated.Chapter 2 introduces the principle of TR-UWB wireless transmission. The principles of TR-UWB wireless transmission of single-input-single-output (SISO) system and TR-UWB wireless transmission of the experiment system in this thesis are introduced.Chapter 3 introduces the design of the experiment system in this thesis. Firstly the design of the experimental platform is introduced, including the functions and features of all components of the experiment platform. Then the modulation and demodulation techniques of the TR-UWB wireless communication system are introduced.Chapter 4 applies the full time domain method to investigate the TR-UWB wireless transmission under dense multipath environment. The investigations include that TR technique can focus signals temporally and spatially in SISO system and the experiment system in this thesis. The transmission rates of the both systems are also investigated. The experimental results suggest that TR technique can effectively reduce the delay spread, increase the wireless transmission rate and achieve a high rate and high quality wireless transmission with its temporal focusing property. The experimental results also imply that TR technique can greatly decrease the interference to other systems around with its spatial focusing property. Then the wireless transmission of different transmission rates is investigated.In Chapter 5, summary about the research and expectation about future work are presented.
