Since 20th 60', GIS has been used in several fields. Nowadays, embedded technology has been developed rapidly and also used in GIS. Embedded, GIS, navigation location are merged together, which is a important research field today.Embedded GIS navagation are used in many fields, such as military and national defence, vehicle navigation, and intelligent transportation. So it is significative to do research on this field.After introducing the research status in quo and devolopment trend, application fields, this thesis puts forward the way of researching and analyzing some technologies and theoies in Embedded GIS Navigation, such as embedded system, GIS, navigation and location, digital map. Based on this, i design the total function and interface of system, including GPS data collection and process, navigation and location, map matching. Then i do some reseach on space data model and structure, also data storage according to requirement of the embedded system. Finally, i give a conclusion about choice of this system.The important work of this thesis is path planning, one is about the shortest path algorithm, including optimization of three algorithms which are Dijkstra, A*, genetic. The method of Dijkstra uses straight line to reduce scope of search, the A* uses binary heap to rank the OPEN list, the genetic uses direct first to produce original pool. Finally, the A* is the best choice by compare. The other is about construction of the topological structure of network and efficient implementation of A*.
