As a major denotation to plant's physiological process such as growth status, growth efficiency and heredity feature, leaf area is widely applied in agriculture research and production. In this dissertation, a kind of portable terminal based on Windows CE OS is created. Combined with embedded system's mobility computation, a measurement system of leaf area based on image-processing is designed, which provides a convenient way for outdoor investigation.After analysis on Windows CE's architecture, the transplant to S3C2440 for Windows CE has been completed through customizing the kernel according to the requirement of actual hardware.Image-processing methods such as preprocess (like linear gray level transformation) and thresholding are analyzed. There exists a limit in actual surrounding for those methods. Some improvement methods, such as threshold operation based on contrast-extension and sub-image threshold operation, is able to get better result in some extend though it is not compatible enough. A method named User Hint Input is putted out, and this method is able to cause better result and can be applied widely.Compared with traditional measurement, the measurement system of leaf area has a better precision and less error.
