UWB through-the-wall radar can obtaion the image and the location of target by transmitting the electromagnetic wave through the obstacle and receiving the echo signals reflected from the targets, which can be used in rescue missions, surveillance and reconnaissance, etc. The synthetic aperture processing technology has widely used in through-the-wall imaging area and received much attention in the world. It is quite different in the signal echo model, parameters estimation method and image processing compared to the general SAR radar because of the work environment and the propagation channel of the electromagnetic wave are very complex. To solve such problem, we do the main work as follows:1. Propose a new wall parameters estimation method using the direct-coupling and reflecting signals; analyze the echo signal's structure for through-the-wall radar and alidate the feasibility by the experimental data.2. The basic concept and principle for stepped-frequency synthetic aperture imaging is presented; the equivalent principle for the multistatic arrary and the sum array and how the parameters work on the image quality is analyzed.3. Present the imaging model in presence of the wall, analyze the wall effects on image and the different wall compensation method.4. Propose the time-mininization wall compensation method, based on the propagation characterization of the electromagnetic wave, which simplify the snell's law method.5. The wall system is introduced to through-the-wall imaging radar, based on which the new wall compensation algorithm will be proposed and present a method to test the wall system function using experiment data.We validate the feasibility of the method using simulation and experimental data. The proposed method can be used in compensating the wall's effort for through-the-wall radar and can support the future research.
