Along with the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the sensor technology, information acquisition and processing technology, the micro wireless sensor node which has the low cost, the low power consumption and the multiple functions has appeared. These random distributing micro nodes which assemble sensor, data processor unit and communication unit formed the sensor networks by self organizing. Its aim is to collect and process sensor object information over object fields by cooperating, to enquire physical world useful information. It is a new area to build sensor networks as virtual databases with energy-efficient data management and acquisition.This thesis analyzes wireless sensor networks system architecture, node structure and embedded operating system firstly. It established theory base for design and realization of WSN database. TaraxDB system consists of two parts, database-front and embedded database engines. The database-front is an interface between application and sensor networks, it is responsible for data receiving and commands sending. The embedded database engine running on sensor node is responsible for data sampling, storing and sending, also responsible for commands sending and receiving. This thesis discusses many questions of design and realization of TaraxDB in detail, including interaction between database-front and users, and interaction between database-front and sensor networks, and design of modules on sensor node.Besides, this thesis analyzes query processing technology of WSN database, discusses the data model and query language. In my thesis, we extend TaraxDB system by inserting the distributed query processing module, and give an optimizing query processing method. Then we test and analyze the performance of system.In the end of this thesis, the correlative work is summarized, some defects are pointed out, and future work is given.
