Along with the rapid development of multimedia communications, the video bandwidth is tense in optical communication. There has been such a saying that once the transmission and storage capacity grow to a certain extent and the system can effectively deal with the origin data, video compression will soon become redundant. But in fact this ideal has not yet come, because the demand of the transmission and storage is far greater than the bandwidth growth. In such circumstances the video coding becomes an effective technology to increase bandwidth utilization. The new generation of coding standards, such as H.264 and AVS are both based on the block hybrid coding framework, mainly including transform, quantization, entropy coding, intra prediction, inter prediction, loop filter etc. This paper is based on AVS standard. Compared with H.264, the major innovation of AVS is to bring forward a number of specific optimization techniques, and to achieve the considerable performance in a lower complexity of the algorithm. This paper analyzed the development of video coding, compared the two standards of H.264 and AVS, carried out the technical detail of AVS, and studied the optimization of AVS pixel interpolation methods on the DSP platform in-depth, including code transplantation, algorithm-level optimization, code-level optimization, using DMA and organizing memory etc.By the use of the block-level parallel scheme and the transmission of the coding status, this thesis completed the parallel encoder design and to achieve the broadcasting performance without the reducing of the coding effect. After the optimization we found the encoding speed of the AVS encoder was more than 25 frames per second and achieved the real-time encoding. The bandwidth of optical communication is increasingly tense, this paper can be a reference to the study of video head-end equipment. Some content of this paper have applied for the country invention patent.
