Traffic accidents are considered dangers to the safety, health and significant life loss of humans. It is shown that side-impact collisions are the second most common cause of serious vehicle accidents behind the front-impact according to statistics.It is also shown that about 30% accidents are side-impact collisions according to statistics.Through an analysis about injuries in side-impact collisions, it is point out that the fatal rate of side-ipmact accidents is only inferior to the front-impact,but the injury rate comes up to the first over front-impcat.The safety of collision, especially side-impact, becomes more and more important.A vast of human forces, material resources and finance have to be invested to design varieties of structures and devices in safety,such as steel side-impact bumper, side-impact airbag and so on.The targets are all to decrease the injuries of people in accidents.With the rapid development of traffic, the role freeways play is becoming more and more important. The building of highways, the increase of vehicle number and the increase of vehicle speed, all of these require higher roadside safety in freeways. The W-beam guardrail has been widely used in highways because it can reduce the damage evidently to both vehicles and passengers during crashes by bearing crashworthiness and absorbing energy through its deformations. In order to obtain the advanced technique of roadside safety, the research on the impact of vehicles against guardrails is being carried out gradually both home and abroad.
