Online Examination System

The online examination, which is quite different from the traditional examination, has been attached more and more importance by the teaching staff. Modern information technology, which is characterized by computer and modern network technology, has greatly promoted the development of social economy, and has also brought about a revolution in knowledge and information. Network examination system is the extension of traditional examination. The immense space of network can be employed to test students anytime and anywhere. In addition, with the utilization of database technology, the process of examination has been greatly simplified. Students can attend examinations in the dormitory or at home, and the teacher can also test students at home, thus the pattern of carrying out examinations at school has been broken, which benefits both sides.In this paper, the application of network and database technology is discussed. With the combination of the advantages of a general drop in prices of hardware and large-scale construction of the Internet, the online examination system, based on B/S model, is studied and developed. In the paper, the situation of web-based examination system at home and abroad is analyzed, the process of its design and implementation is mentioned, its composition and structure is described, and its design scheme, realization methods, exploiting tools and correlative techniques are illustrated. Its realization process, including system analysis, system investigation, data process analysis, function design, data base design, system configuration scheme, system realization, system testing and debugging, is focused. Its characteristics including saving costs and improving efficiency are summarized. It is easy to employ and install the system, which sets loose limits on hardware, saves testing costs and improves testing efficiency. The system is mainly oriented towards students, examinants and administrators with different jurisdiction. Now with important functions of input, modification, inquiry and online examination, the designing of objective sections has been achieved, examinations without paper have been realized, and authorized students' needs of taking examinations and obtaining the scores through the Internet and LAN anytime and anywhere have been met. Meanwhile, a teacher's tasks of setting, editing and checking test papers have been greatly relieved.The purposes of designing online examination system are mentioned as follows: providing examinees with most convenient and effective service, that is, instant design of test papers, instant examination and instant evaluation; relieving teachers of greatest burden, that is, automatic inputting test items, automatic creating test paper, automatic checking and counting, and online invigilation.
