With the development of medical technology, more and more hospitals have gradually implemented digital medical processing by PACS (abbreviate for Picture Archiving and Communication System) and HIS (abbreviate for Hospital Information System), including the operations of capturing, displaying, storing, processing and managing. However, in some community hospitals, their current medical devices have limited image-processing abilities, which influence the instruction of doctors. Moreover, these hospitals'devices are not digitized and their information system is not totally implemented, which makes it impossible to implement a whole PACS or HIS. For these reasons, it is required to implement a system for these hospitals that can help the doctors by processing and analyzing medical images based on characteristics of these medical images. The Medical Image Processing System in this essay is used by community hospitals to capture and tune the real-time images in the department of radio and others. It is an integrated system that resolves the issues on capturing, displaying, storing, processing and managing the medical images.Firstly, this essay analyses the technologies on capturing, displaying, processing, searching medical images. Then, it demonstrates the details on the implementation that fulfill the requirements on processing medical images for the community hospitals. The whole system consists of two parts, images processing and data management. Image processing has modules like medical image transform and enhancement, pseudocolor process, image annotation and measurement, image retrieval based on the algorithm of Water-Fill and so on. Furthermore, data management improves the management of medial images by the technologies of Open-Report-Style document model, the data storage and recovery. The system is programmed in Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. Using UML makes the processes of analysis and design effective and standard.The evaluation shows that the image process modules and image retrieval module meet the requirement from the doctors effectively. Besides, the image data management modules meet the management requirement by implementing the functions like input, processing, storing and managing. Therefore, this system can make the medical image processing more effective for the doctors.
