Since the concept of digital watermark was proposed in 1993, the digital watermark technique becomes a very active research field, and it has been widely used in applications such as broadcast surveillance, proprietor differentiation, ownership validation, operation scout, content authentication, copy control and so on. This technique is progressing nowadays.Digital watermark technique as well as its background and applications is introduced in this paper. Watermark embedded in image is specially emphasized, including its concept, sort, basic frame, technique requirements and typical algorithm. Based on these foundations, main works below are done:1. Propose and design a digital watermarking algorithm which is used in color image. Realize it in MATLAB and validate it. In this algorithm, image embedded with watermark can be printed, and the watermark can be extracted as well as identified after scanning. Therefore, this method can be used in product casing, in order to distinguish fake and carry the serial number of product. There are several process steps as watermark generation, embedding, extraction and validation. Both robust and fragile watermark are embedded in carrier image when embedding work is done, they are all invisible. In extraction process, the two watermarks are extracted from the image scanned in. The fragile watermark can tell whether the product is a fake one. If not, product serial number can be gotten from the robust watermark. This part is mainly about algorithm design and realization.2. Replant the watermark extraction part in the algorithm to Digital Signal Processor (DSP), programming with C. This software using DSP as its core, can extract watermarks from image and identify them. This part is mainly about software design and programming.3. Design an embedded system of watermark extraction and identification. Design an embedded system based on DSP. This system affords standard interface, and do the analysis work to image collected to identify watermark in the image. This part is mainly about system design and hardware development.
