Visualization Technology on medical volume data can be used to clearly show the characteristic of human organs or tissue and the complex relationship between spatial locations, through useful information from three-dimensional medical data which consists of medical slices (such as CT, MRI, etc.).Brain image processing and reconstruction have a direct impact on the speed and effect of cortex visualization. This paper, based on the key problems about the cerebral cortex visualization technology in medical data field, tries to explore principal tasks embodied in the following areas:1. Brain tissue extraction is highlighted in the paper. The extraction of the brain tissue is achieved through the level set methods and improved watershed segmentation. Level set method can be used to make segmentation the structure of the brain by identifying the external cerebral boundary contour. An improved watershed algorithm taking gray similarity metric as a regional merger is proposed to make cerebral tissue extraction automatically.2. Reconstruction of the cerebral cortex. The genetic two-dimensional Otsu of segmentation algorithm is proposed to require the image of ectocinerea, and then Marching Cubes algorithm is used to achieve the reconstruction of cerebral cortex. This method can effectively improve the speed and effectiveness of reconstruction.3. The mesh processing method is adopted here too. Mesh simplification, mesh smoothing and hole filling based on characteristic constrain are studied in the paper. Triangular mesh simplified algorithm and Laplacian smoothing algorithm based on characteristics and mesh hole-filling algorithm are achieved, which improve the interaction and the effectiveness of the modes.4. System design and implementation. This paper develops cortex visualization system based on medical volume data and achieves the surface rendering and volume rendering of the brain slices. Image preprocessing,segmentation,reconstruction,rendering,mesh processing,model and image saving are all realized. Finally, the feasibility and usability of algorithm are confirmed through related experimental results mentioned in this paper.
