With the development of radar technology and digital technology, the function of range detector becomes more and more complex, for the necessity of wide band measurement and the agile selecting of various work modes and various parameters settings.First, the function of Radar range detecting system and the principle of Radar are introduced. Then the performance of range detecting system and the new requirement for range detecting system of wide band measure radar are analyzed. After that, the factors which impact the precisions of the range detecting system are analyzed. And the advantages of designing a DSP-based radar range detecting system are brought forward. After introducing the range-detecting project basing on the hardware platform of Analog Device Inc.'s ADSP21160 and FLEX10K100ARC-3 which have embedding arrays, the program working flow is also demonstrated. At last a real range measuring curve shows the result of the space target measuring radar, using this range detecting project, measuring the secondary planet ENVISAT. It is proved that in addition to meet the radar wide band measuring, the DSP-based radar range detecting system also can realize various radar working modes, set parameters, eliminate ambiguity and avoid blind areas. And, the measurement precision meets the requirement.
