Single observer passive localization and tracking technology is to use a Observation Platform. The facilities don't transmit signals actively, but just passively receive the information from emitters to carry out the location. The locations mainly falls into two kinds, one being to use signals from unknown emitters, to confirm the type of emitter and the location of its platform, and the other one being to use the emitters whose locations are already known to confirm the location and movement information of flying objects.Becourse of Passive localization and tracking technology don't radiate any electromagnetic waves, it has good Hidden properties and plays a significant role in the electronic warface. Meanwhile, from the aspect of physical configuration, it needs only the receiver, not transmitter. Fewer components mean lower cost, especially in civilian areas. Thus it has broader room for development.Base of the paper is that the kernel of passive localization includes methods of passive localization and the algorithm of filter, the diverse combinations can produce diverse schemes of passive localization. Because methods of passive localization are based on foundation of mathematical module, and it is a mature technology now,so the increasingly developing filter algorithm plays a more important role in capability of the system.The paper first introduces the status quo of Single observer passive localization and tracking technology, and analyses the trend of further development according to its features, and indicate the starting point and considerations of the research in the paper.Then the paper makes a thorough analysis of Single observer passive localization and tracking technology, and discusses the principles of multitude methods of passive localization, researches filter algorithm which is gradually developing. The highlights of the paper include the thorough research of current popular algorithms, such as Sigma Point Kalman Filter(SPKF),Paticle Filter(PF), and the combination of various location methods, and put forward many passive localization schemes and make many computer simulations to validate its capability. Meanwhile, considering that real-time is very important in engineering, DSP is introduced into the hardware in the paper, and utilize the TMS320C6701EVM board of TI to do the DSP algorithm and application.Finally, the paper makes a conclusion and makes an expectation of further research.
