Though the proportion of foreign fibers in cotton is little, it does great harm to the cotton. FFDC(Foreign Fiber Detecting System)is used to detecting and cleaning up foreign fibers. It can overcome a series of shortcomings such as low efficiency and low quality when cleaning up foreign fiber manually. The product's quality is highly improved and cost is decreased by mounting the system in the gin process. Although there are some commercial products abroad, they are too expensive. To some extend, they are not fit for Chinese factories, so it is very important to develop such machine to suit for Chinese factory.This article thoroughly discusses about foreign fiber detecting technology. Through studying foreign and domestic development of FFDT(Foreign Fiber Detecting Technology), A method is adopted in such system, which the system is mounted in the gin process. Some technical problems are demanded in devising such system especially in gin process. The device's whole structure is designed. Then the key technology of the subsystem is detailed discussed.It is very difficult to detect the foreign fibers from the cotton because of the diversity of foreign fiber and identity comparing with cotton. The key factor of the problem is to find out the common characters of the foreign fibers and derive them from the cotton. The article gives a color image clustering algorithm by which the foreign fiber can be recognized from the cotton. However, in order to improve the ability of recognizing foreign fibers, an analysis method base on combined characters is used in the sequent process, which the following characters is adopted such as Area, Shape and Center Distance.The foreign fibers should be cleaned up from the cotton ultimately, an optimal control method should be used to get high fallen cotton rate, while getting rid of foreign fibers. The article gives a controlling method to clean up the foreign fibers validly. In addition, the key technologies involved are detailed discussed.By analyzing general image processing and recognizing system, the foreign fibers inspected and recognized system is developed base on 00 technology, which can be used to develop other industrial inspecting system quickly.
