Service-oriented Portfolio Service Registry

With the growing popularity of Web services, there are more and more Web services with the same function in the internet. However, due to the fact that the capability of a single Web service is limited, a considerable number of research efforts are made on the composition of Web services to create Web service with new function both in academia and in industry. The composition of Web services has been an effective solution of complex Web applications.Service registration plays an important role in service composition. One of the important problems in service composition is service discovery, which is how to choose adequate web services for composition. Service registration is the precondition of service discovery. The service description language used in service registration is a key problem in service composition as well. An adequate web service description language can make for the design of service discovery algorithm, which can enhance the efficiency of lookup greatly. Besides, in the process of service composition, services should collaborate and exchange information to fulfill the task, therefore the standard format to describe the information of services is needed.At the present time, UDDI Registry is commonly used in the industry, but it will not satisfy the need of the service composition platform in specific domain. On the one hand, the services with the same function can not display their characteristics in UDDI. On the other hand, current matching technology used in UDDI is based on key words and syntax, which does not make any use of semantic information, can not fulfill the requirements for the automatic discovery and composition of Web service.
