Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is one of the most maturely developed and widely applied flat panel displays, which has already industrialized and is still under developing. At present the Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AM-LCD) is the mainstream, which involves the subjects like material, chemistry, electronics, optics and chroma.Though the current AM-LCDs use TFT (Thin Film Transistor) as their active elements, however, it would be possible to use the diodes instead, for the diodes are much easier to be made.In this thesis, we aimed our research at metal-C60 Fullerene Schottky barrier contact, which is the typical structure of C60 diodes. The research work involves both scientific aspect and fabrication technics. Finally, we simulated the characteristics of Lechner bi-terminal AM-LCD with C60 diodes, which would be much cheaper than the current AM-LCD.The research work is discussed in detail as follows:1. The interface effect of Al/C60 and Cu/C60 contact was examined using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) and the electrical characteristics of Cu/C60/Cu structure was also studied.2. The fabrication technics of Al/C60/Cu Schottky diode was studied. It was concluded that sequence of depositing process was the key factor that determined the results of the experiments.3. The Al/C60/Cu Schottky diodes were formed by depositing C60 layer on Al films and based on the structure, a series of scientific research were made. The data showed that the rectification ratio of Al/C60/Cu without modification was only 30, while Al/AlOx/C60/Cu structure modified by oxidation was 100 at±2V bias voltage.4. We found that oxidation after forming the films greatly improved the performance of C60 diodes. The diodes that were modified evidently excelled those that were not modified in rectification ratio in the same conditions. This shows that the formation of AlOx plays an important role in the fabrication of C60 diodes.
