New generation broadband wireless communications should be able to provide reliable high-data-rate transmissions in time and frequency selective wireless channel. Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technique, one of the most significant breakthroughs in communications field in recent years offers an effective diversity way to combat, even exploit fading. However, high-speed data transmission system suffers from time-variant multi-path fading and inter-symbol interference (ISI). As a solution, adaptive equalization can effectively combat ISI by compensationg for channel distortation. Adaptive equalization technology has been regarded as a potential candidate to combat ISI for future wireless communications. An important topic in parametric modelling is the question of the correct model order. Better system performance can be achieved at the optimal model order. At present, we found fewer papers on how to select the order of ADFE. In this thesis we present a new method for selecting the order of ADFE model. It is based on the mean square error (MSE) principle and we prove the validity of the method by computer simulations. To make a thorough understanding of MIMO adaptive equalization system, in this thesis the author: 1) Ananlyze the characteristics of MIMO wideband channels and the modeling and simulation of 3GPP SCM; 2) Research the capability of MIMO linear adaptive equalization and MIMO non-linear adaptive equalization by computer simulations; 3) Present a new method for selecting the order of ADFE model 4) Implement the ADFE on ADSP-21160 for static image transmission , and already achieve satisfactory experimental result , which make a foundation for MIMO adaptive equalization to be appllied in the real communication systems.
