Recently, with the development of wireless networks, people can enjoy convenient life by using these networks. Many researchers try their best to develop these networks for better ability.Ad hoc network is an important wireless network. Many people research this kind of interesting network. This network has many advantages, and has many disadvantages too. Some disadvantages cause serious problems, and the effect of Ad hoc is low for these reasons. The purpose of these researches is improving throughput, lower delay and fewer errors. At present, the researches on Ad hoc are focus on routing protocol. Researchers hope to solve these problems by routing protocols. Actually, the frame length in Ad hoc network is also an important force to the throughput, delay and errors. Unfortunately, there are few people research the strategy of variable frame length. This thesis gives a new self-adaptive strategy in frame length of Ad hoc network. This strategy must be simple. The certain frame length can be confirmed fast. So that, there is a better efficiency in the Ad hoc network. This thesis begins with basic knowledge of Ad hoc, such as the stage of Ad hoc. Then, this thesis gives the reasons of shorten frames. The normal networks are also introduced. How to confirm the frame length in these networks is the point. After the strategy of IEEE 802.11 frame length, the thesis gives a new strategy. The name of this strategy is insist-back off. The new strategy can detect the certain length of the frame in the channel, by decreasing the times of retry in IEEE 802.11 strategy, and increase or decrease the frame length in certain condition. By analyzing the strategy and simulation, the effect of this strategy is confirmed. It's a nice strategy to improve the throughput.
