With the fast spread of Linux and the great progress of embedded system in china, domestic Linux users are staring chinese localization of embedded Linux in the face. With the development of embedded Linux OS, new domains and application raise many new requirements towards chinese localization of embedded Linux operating system. The most important features include high reliability, agileness, high efficiency and extensiblity. Regrettably, there is few relevant research are working on those problems now inland, So It's valuable and important to deeply investigate, study and develop the embedded linux chinese operating system.Good chinese platform architecture can optimize the critical performance of the system. Moreover, It can balance other performance requirement of the operating system and guarantee the realization of the design goal of the OS's chinese localization. In the first chapter, we analyze characters of embedded Linux, and the mainstream chinese localization architecture at present and it's strength,weakness and development tendency in detail. On basis of this, we present a novel and optimized model of Chinese platform of embedded Linux OS based on kernel chinese localization combines with appendage chinese localization, and apply it to the design of this system.The appropriate choice of system encoding is the necessary condition to realize chinese platform of embedded Linux OS. In the second chapter in this paper, we analyze and investigate chinese chactacter sets, and then compare with each other systematically in order to fix a appropriate chactacter set as the system encoding. Adopting the kernel chinese localization technique was in favor of improving the display efficiency of embedded chinese system. The system realize chinese output by modifying display functions, it also resolve some problems of embedded Linux display module such as half-Chinese output, disorderly-Chinese output and tabs output by adopting double- buffer technique.Adopting the appendage chinese localization technique of chinese input was in favor of improving the reliability and stability of embedded chinese system, also minish kernel's weight.
