Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is an effective nondestructive testing technique that developed in recent decades of years has been being under extensive research. Compared with other traditional detection method, GPR has many advantages. For example, it not only has the abilities of rapid, continuous and real-time detection but also has the strong ability of anti-interference under different circumstances with high resolution. So it has been received much more attention as soon as it came out. In recent years, much progress has been achieved on GPR in both hardware and signal processing techniques as the development of computer and electronic devices. GPR has already showed a very bright outlook in both military and civilian applications.As a new and independent system of radar, GPR has already in-depth studies abroad for years and in comparison the researches on GPR in China began later than western countries. Most of Chinese GPR have not as good performances as ones abroad. In the paper, the GPR system developed by us employs several optimization techniques to enhance the system performances, including antenna, sampling-hold circuit, orientation wheel, function of system software, multithreading, and signal processing algorithms. As the result the system works more well with these techniques, and its azimuth and distance resolution of 10 cm has been achieved with detection depth of more than 50 cm.The main contents of this dissertation are summarized as following:1. On the basis of sensor, design orientation wheel and apply it in the system, use it to control system working instead of manual control, elevate the efficiency of system notably;2. Apply several data progressing algorithm which well-suited for engineering including DC excursion eliminating, data accumulation, background removing, enhance the SNR and resolution, heighten the effect of imaging;3. Employ multithreading technique in the system soft, increase the efficiency twice than former system., solve the difficulty of system working slowly;4.
