The sound around us can help people locate the orientation and distance of objects, also the specific environment. In order to make people who use virtual system to be enmeshed into virtual environment, the virtual system must be adapted to the available sense of human. Although most of virtual systems fix on vision, a 3D virtual sound system can make people feeling the location of sound source and environment's change, and improve mutual effects of sound environments. Therefore, 3D virtual sound technique is an important content in computer technology, video/audio technology and virtual reality technology, and it is also an important research field and a popular subject at present in acoustics simulation and humanized audio outputting technology.The psychoacoustics and physiology of human beings are the theoretical foundation of virtual sound location research. Human's auditory system structure and auditory characteristics are introduced in this paper. These are research foundation for this paper.And then the process of perceived sound is described. The gist of audio location, Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) which is the focus of transmission principle is introduced. Then, the method of measuring HRTF by MIT and CIPIC laboratory is briefly reviewed. After that, by using sound wave scatter theory and rigid sphere model of head, a simple method for calculation HRTF is proposed. And validating that method through psychoacoustics experiment, and matching database for realizing individual HRTF. Based on the psychology research, dividing the HRTF frequency spectral into several frequency bands,and changing gain elements, and then probability of front-back confusion is reduced. In order to get virtual environment more truly, space interpolation of HRTF which can reduce the number of measurements for new user's HRTF has been researched. The above points are the foundation of audio location system of this paper.In the application of multimedia computer sound reproduction, it is required to process the audio signal in real time. The method of processing multimedia computer audio signal in real time is discussed in this paper. It is emphasized that the calculation speed of data processing module should be as fast as possible.
