The theory of random signal has been widely used in the fields of communication, radar, navigation and cryptology in the initial stage of its formation. With the development of the research on the random signal theory in recent years, it has been increasingly employed in practice due to the people's more and more understanding of it. The scope of its application expands from the above fields to automatic control, computer, acoustics and optical measurement, digital track and range measuring system as well as failure detection of digital network system. In these applications, it is of paramount importance to generate the random signal (or sequence), and the performance of it has the very tremendous influence on the practical application.Firstly, this article will give an introduction to some methods of random signals generating, including the generation of the chaos random signal using the Logistic mapping, the generation of the uniform distribution random signal and the random sequence based on Cellular Automata, as well as the generation of the Gaussian random number using the Ziggurat algorithm. Then, this article will deal with the hardware realization of these algorithms. By analyzing the performance of the signals which hardware generates, these random signals are proved to meet various applying requirements. At the end of this article, we will introduce the design of the hardware platform which generates random signals. The realization of the hardware platform adopts the high performance Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and the high speed D/A convector. Through the high speed DDR SDRAM module at the hardware platform, we may improve the throughput of FPGA digital interface to satisfy the requirement of the high speed D/A convector for transmission rate of digital interface.
