Image Stitching Technology Research And Implementation

Image mosaic is an important research area of computer vision, image processing and computer graphics all the time. It can used to construct the large field of view and high-resolution image. Its application is in virtual reality, medical image processing, remote sensing and military affairs.In the project of micro pedrail mobile robot, monocular vision can not satisfy the requirement of visual navigation and monocular vision' s visual field is obviously smaller than binocular vision. For enlarging the robot' s visual field, mosaicing the image from the robot binocular vision, providing the convenience of the robot visual navigation, the thesis makes a study of image mosaic technology.The thesis summarizes the effort of image mosaic that the researchers have achieved. The thesis introduces image mosaic in detail, depending on the steps of image mosaic: image pre-processing, image registration and image composition. In image pre-processing, it introduces two steps of image pre-processing that is image distortion rectification and image noise restraint. In image registration, it analyses several algorithms of image registration and the difficulties of image registration. And two new methods are proposed to solve the problems of image registration that one is the three templates layered registration algorithm with threshold, the other is similar curve of maximum grad improved registration algorithm. The experiments show that the new algorithms are robust and they can stitch two images taken by common camera in many conditions accurately and can be applied under many conditions. In image composition, it makes an improvement on the weighted composition algorithm and introduces the weighted composition algorithm of boundary preservation, based on the summary of common image composition algorithms.
