Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is one of the important research areas of array signal processing, which is found wide applications in a variety of fields ranging from radar, communication and sonar to seismology. Especially, they play an essential role in the passive detection of emerging array radar and SDMA (Space Division Multiple Access) of smart antenna system. Since their introduction at early 1980s, high-resolution DOA estimation techniques have long been of great research interest and many significant progresses have been made in this field. This thesis focuses on the general DOA estimation algorithms and their generalizations.In this thesis, we firstly establish the data model for DOA estimation; introduce the commonly used DOA estimation algorithms; compare their performance through computer simulations. Then, for the one-dimensional signal in communication, e.g., BPSK and MASK, we analyze a CSPRIT algorithm based on the ESPRIT, and compare its performance with conventional ESPRIT. Finally, for the two-dimensional signal such as MSK, we propose a modified CSPRIT algorithm; improve the applicability of CSPRIT algorithm.
