Digital video is becoming more and more common in various aspects of life .It is important to design an efficient system to browse and retrieve video imformation . Technologies of traditional database cannot efficiently manage video data because of the extremely large amounts ,. spatial-temporal dimension and complex structures of video data. Content-based video browse , search system are developed .To establish content-based video browse and search system , it is the first step to build the structure of video . The purpose of the structure of video is to turn video into different hierarchical logic clips of shot, scene and series . Shot boundary detection is the first step in video structure . Select one or more key-frames can make Client browse video trough shot. This dissertation discussed Shot boundary detection and key-frame selection. The main topics include :1) This article proposes a improved clustering method for shot boundary detection . generally, shot boundary detection is down through the characteristics of compressed video data directly . The arithmetics of shot boundary detection through half compressed video data not only save the time of whole decoding but also make use of the compression data well. Therefore , this paper introduces how to extract DC image from an I frame file of MPEG-2 standard firstly ; and then propose a way of I frame clustering based on the max-min distance .2) The usage of the key frame not only reduce the data of the video consumedly but also provide an organization frame for video browse , search and retrieval ability . This text put forward a way of key frame selection base on clustering center .
