In recent years with the in-depth application and development of Internet , traditional analog voice transmission has been far from meeting the demand of the digital age. Therefore, some research about reducing transmission rate by compressing digital analog voice came into being and developing rapidly.At present, the rapid development of the Internet is leading another digitalize revolution. It is the trend of the times to transmit voice, images, graphics, video data and multimedia information in a unified digital network platform. Voice over IP, which Integrateing voice coding technology and the network technology has emerged therefrom. In addition to it's advantages: used packet switching technology, increasing utilization of transmison lines, lower communication costs ,it can also achieve a value-added business and integrates with multimedia technology, which increase its advantaged and broader it's developing prospect. But on the outcome of current IP telephony, the vast majority of the network telephone had to use multimedia PC to achieving transmission through its network interface, which in effect increased IP telephony hardware costs.This voice compression and network transmission system is to address the shortcomings of existing IP telephone and to achieving the secession of PC. This design accomplishing a hardware design of a digital voice compression/decompression system, which is based on G.723.1 voice compression standard and make it to be able to communication through network. The following dissertation will presentation the details of the system design, development process and its composition, including voice processing module, network module, control and interface module. The development of voice-coding technology, several typical voice compression algorithms and the fundamental principles of voice transmission through Internet and some related standards, key technology is introduced firstly, and then in-depth explaining the system process through analysizing the system principles and composition.
