Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a multi-hop temporary autonomous system of mobile nodes with wireless transmitters and receivers without the aid of pre-established network infrastructure. Because of good performance in resisting-destroy, short wave communication becomes important means of long-range communication in military. The combination of short wave communication and MANET technology has produced HF MANET. HF MANET is a kind of MANET that uses short wave channel as the physics medium. MAC layer protocols are the core of HF MANET to become a network.Link layer protocols mainly research on medium access protocol, MAC address,automatic link establishment technologies,protocol data structure and data transmission protocol.According to the designing requirement of HF channel characteristics and combining with the 3rd Generation ALE (3G-ALE)Technology, this paper proposes a new HF Link protocol,using TDMA mode. And this new protocol supports communication in large scale area. This protocol work in synchronization. It is composed of three mian protocols: Call Synchronization Protocol, Control Frame Transmission Protocol based on ARQ mechanism and Data Transmisstion Protocol based on slot precontract mechanism. One scan channel table is shared in the HFMANET. The nodes in the same dwell group work in the same scan channel, and the nodes in the different dwell group work in the different scan channel. If there is a node need to communicate the other node, it has to calculate the other node's scan channel which will be it's call channel. The Call Synchronization Protocol will be implement to fulfill the end-to-end link establishment. Later the couple nodes can implement the control frame transmission or data transmission. This kind of data transmission protocol based on slot precontract basically fulfills the networking and data transmission function.According to the principle of this new link protocol, the scheme is simulated in OPNET simulation. A whole network model using DSR route protocol and this new link protocol is found.
