Technology of simulation is applied in many fields, due to the rapid development of computer science. Surgery simulation is one application in Medicine field for this technology. It involves the visualization of medical data, computer vision, algorithm and computer data structure, biology mechanics, etc. Cutting simulation of Human parenchyma and organs is an important part for surgery simulation and integrates many critical technologies such as geometrical modeling, physical modeling, collision detection and the method for subdivision. The goal of cutting simulation is simulating the course that human tissue is being cut with the scalpel moving.Main research work in this paper is listed as follows:1) Build the geometrical model of organ. Geometrical model is the foundation of surgery simulation system. We can build it with existed arithmetic or software. Because current ways of automatic outline pick-up are not qualified, we should achieve it with semiautomatic method. Amira is an useful software and integrates many popular means of edge detection by which we can easily adjust the outline. So it is very adapted to building geometrical model and adopted in this paper.2) The design of Local collision detection algorithm. The system should make certain the ubiety of the scalpel and the organ in time. It also can record the intersections and confirm if the cutting of model occurs. The local collision detection algorithm making use of the neighboring information (including vertex, edge, face and tetrahedron) can improve the detection efficiency apparently.3) Subdivision of the tetrahedrons using minimal element subdivision. Cutting simulation based on solid model is usually implemented using element removal or element subdivision. There are many ways of subdivision. The simpleness and efficiency conflict with each other. The paper achieves subdivision using minimal element subdivision as a middle course.According to the masterstroke of the surgery simulation, the paper introduces and discusses the realization of the main functional modules in cutting simulation. The experiment validates that it is of value and simulation effect in the cutting simulation based on minimal element subdivision and local collision detection.
