Multi-function Set-top Box

Along with popularity of the numerical television in our country and rapid growth of global market of Internet television, the research and development of the numerical television Set Top Box, a mostly connecting equipment, have to face with many difficulties, such as the functions it provides are limited and not able to attract customers, the bad competition due to repetition of different factories' products, etc.According to author's practice in the project of Multi-function Set Top Box product series in Hisense Corporation, the design and realization of both software and hardware of the numerical television Set Top Box are discussed in this thesis. Many critical techniques are used in such project so as to integrate the functions of the broad-band multi-media Set Top Box, the numerical television Set Top box and media adapter DMA Set Top Box in one platform. Such integration may reduce farthest the cost of product, meanwhile satisfy well the customers' demand.This thesis introduces the critical techniques of multi-function Set Top box and expatiates relevant demand analysis, general design and essentials design following the idea of software engineering. According to the design approach, the implementation of multi-function Set Top box, especially the frame, principle, transplant and cut of the embedded browser, is introduced.The creative work of the thesis includes finding out a reasonable way to cut the embedded browser KHTMLPart, constructing a JavaScript engine for embedded browser and binding it with DOM criterion. Such an embedded browser is based on an open-source browser, named Konqueror, which is cutted and then transplanted to Linux according to the system relativity.At the end of the thesis, the relavent work is summarized. The trend of technical development of Multi-function Set Top Box and what should be done next are also prospected.
