"Workload collection and analysis system" accomplishes the requirements of workload measurement and inter management in Genersoft Ltd.. The system is a distributed network application with multiple-tier architecture. Its background, business use case model, system design theory, functions and implementation are introduced. The main functions of the system include: system maintenance, which includes user management, role management, grant management, etc.;basic information description, which includes project information and activity catalog, etc.;data collection, which includes workload record and week planning;auditing, statistic and data query. With this system as an example, this paper then describes how to apply Microsoft's DNA (Distributed interNet Application Architecture) to the development of a real system. First, the whole technical architecture is introduced. Then, technical analysis is performed from the point of view of presentation tier, business logic tier and data tier, respectively. This system's presentation tier is based on web service model and Visual IterDev is chosen as the developing tools. With business logic tier, the developing tool is Dephi. ADO and OLE DB interface standards are used in Data tier. Some key techniques used in the system development process are introduced, such as the mapping between object model and database model, the authorization model based on RBAC (Role Based Access Control) and the usage of stored procedure for large volume data search to improve performance. At last, it summarizes the experiences got in the process of management, design and implementation of the project. This system has been deployed and applied successfully.
