SC-FDE (Single Carrier-Frequency Domain Equalization) allows an advantageous of high-speed data transmission in frequency-selective fading channel. It avoids the complexity of SC-TDE (Single Carrier-Time Domain Equalization), and the high PAPR (Peak Average Power Ratio) of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) as well. It becomes one of the most important components of the wideband wireless access technique. In recent years, there is more and more discussion about SC-FDE, including been brought into the IEEE802.16 (WIMAX) protocol. However, most of research work still focuses on theories of parts not whole system, and less implementation in real hardware platform.In this essay, it constructs a whole SC-FDE simulation platform, and gives performance evaluation of each algorithm. Beginning with the diagram, it brings forward key techniques, including frame synchronization, sampling synchronization, carrier frequency offset estimation /tracking, frequency domain equalization and so on. The author proposes a new approach for symbol synchronization. The simulation result proves that comparing to the conventional algorithm, the new method have significantly improved the performance as more precise beginning of the symbol can be found.Based on the software radio platform, The dissertation gives an implementation of SC-FDE system on FPGA. Using the Verilog HDL, we have completed the whole transmitter and all the modules of receiver, for the whole receiver is debugging.The dissertation concludes one portion of author's researches. It is organized as follows.In Chapter Ⅰ, a brief survey of the development of SC-FDE is introduced. And, it gives the general works in author's research.Chapter Ⅱ researches the theory of SC-FDE technique and, its characteristics in the next generation (4G) wireless communications. It gives the comparison with OFDM, ensures the design of feasible SC-FDE system. Moreover, this chapter also discusses the wireless channel.Chapter Ⅲ focuses on the pivotal algorithms of SC-FDE system. Detailed design architecture is analyzed, optimized and simulated. The results of the whole simulation system, including transmitter, channel and receiver is presented and is compared with the OFDM system.On the basis of the algorithms analysis in Chapter Ⅲ, the last Chapter gives the implementation of SC-FDE system on the hardware platform as the advanced work. With the intent of the validation of this technique and, for the farther research, we have completed the whole transmitter and all the modules of receiver.Finally, according to the limitation of the SC-FDE system designed both in simulation and implementation, some ideas are discussed to improve the performance for the future.
