Today, Mobile Phone is not a kind of luxury, but has been a kind of popular consumable. And so, the realization of position location abilities on mobile phones has become an expected value-added service by many users. This paper focuses on studying the realization technology of position location on CDMA terminals in hostile environments, the analysis of IS801.1 protocol, the studying of how to improve the precision of position location and how to overcome the NLOS problem. Also we study how to improve the performance of position location system. Firstly we introduce the generally used position location technologies, including satellite positioning technologies and terrestrial network locating technologies, analyze their performance and applicability in different environment. Based on this, according to the requirements of CDMA system and the wireless circumstance we are facing, we provide a pretty good location solution that can be used on CDMA terminals, study the technologies which could improve the location precision & efficiency and how to restrict the NLOS errors. Then we present a realized hybrid-network model that simultaneously uses GPS satellite constellation and CDMA network, analyze the standard 3G position location protocol IS801-1, improved a new way which was expected measuring and minimizing the cost of providing location services in CDMA network. At last we use Qualcomm Company' s MSM6050 chipset which integrated gpsOne technology, the corresponding BREW development environment and toolkit, developing an application which implemented the positioning on the terminal. Also we considered how to efficiently organizing the altitude/longitude of the terminal and the GIS system, just expecting in the future we can realize the really colorful Location Based Services on Mobile Terminals.
