The method of content analysis is a research technique that can give a systematic, objective and quantitative description to literature content, and it has been widely used in social science researches. As a research method that combined quantitative and qualitative techniques, it has different effects in different fields. Using this method, people can get the essence of the content, find the objective fact and development trend of any special topic, describe the development track of science, illustrate the development course of science, discover the style of author, reflect the attitudes and interests of individuals and communities, and acquire the a series of underlying information such as political, military, economic intelligence and so on. However, with the blast of the information and the development of the semantic web, people make a new request to content analysis, which is analysis on the semantic level. So, under the new requirement, the method of content analysis is urgently called for development. Ontology is a formal specification of a shared conceptualization. It cares about the internal relations between concepts, which is the base of semantic retrieval. This paper studies the basic theories and the applications of the method of content analysis, and discusses its limitations. By investigating the principle of ontology, the method of content analysis and ontology are integrated into a new research technique. Then probes into the operation and the value of application of the method of content analysis based on ontology, and puts forward the basic framework and hierarchy of this new method. At last, according to the operation flow, a simulative system for content analysis based on ontology is built associating with the instance of content analysis.
