Video Retrieval Key Frame Extraction Method

Nowadays people pay attention to the importance of the video retrieval as much as possible. Video retrieval is a complex technology, which involves many theories and technical methods, such as computer graphics, pattern recognition, cognitive science, image processing, DBMS, artificial intelligence and so on. Therefore it is very difficult to describe and retrieval video information really and truly. In the field of video retrieval, the problem of key frame extraction is of great importance. The methods of key frame extraction will be discussed in this thesis.In this dissertation, the author first introduces the development and applications of the video retrieval technology, and the characteristics, structure and compressed principle of digital video have been studied on in detail. Then the description and extraction of color feature of video frames have been researched. The methods of key frame extraction is the core of this thesis, based on lots of documents, the author narrates and summarizes several typical methods and related technologies of key frame extraction at length. At last, based on color feature, an experiment system of key frame extraction has been designed. The algorithms, which are based on the average histogram and content analysis (non-variable and variable) have been achieved, and then the whole thesis has been concluded in the end.
