Automated Fingerprint Identification System

As one kind of key biometrics technology, academia and corporation have focused on the research on automated fingerprint identification technology in recent years. AFIS comprises fingerprint scanning, minutiae extraction, fingerprint matching and fingerprint classification.In order to realize a reliable AFIS , the technology of fingerprint identification has been researched systemically in recent years. But there are still lots of research contents which can be studied deeply in AFIS research area. The paper study deeply several key issues in fingerprint identification technology.This paper summarizes the latest study result in fingerprint verification methods and technologies, realizes lots of algorithms, and compares effects of different algorithms, after that proposes a whole set of fingerprint verification solution, including image capture, fingerprint preprocessing and matching in a regular AFIS. Especially in the thinning algorithm, OPTA's disadvantage is found. And then, a new algorithm is put forward to get good effect. On the foundation of research production, the paper gives a design and implement of an examinee authentication system by intelligent cards based on fingerprint character verification. Finally, the paper analyzes the improvements needed to be done in this study and give the directions of future word.
