Today, embedded system has been a great field of modern electronic design. As the important element to realize miniaturization, intelligent and knowledge innovation, embedded system has been widely used and plays an important role in the domain of national defence, traffic, energy sources, industry, communication and daily life. With the fast development of internet, network comes to thousand homes. Which correspondingly requires the industrial control equipments to have strong network abilities such as data transfer by network. This dissertation, takes the requirement to research and design network system functions of cable diameter detector into important, based on AT91RM9200 hardware platform, studied the embedded operating system—Linux. Which mainly discussed software platform design and realized network device driver programing. Software plot realization is composed of design of second boot program RomBootloader and boot program U-Boot. The part of network device driver wholly depict the way to program network device driver. The codes of the way to construct software platform and network device driver have become modules. Which is easily transplant in later products. This means of developing is more efficient than that without operating system, which is important in initial stage of research.
