Augmented Reality(AR) is a recent hotspot, arising from the late of 1980s. It hashigh applicable potential in these fields of industry,medical and entertainment etc.AR is a technology which a computer-generated image is superimposed onto theuser's vision of the real world, giving the user additional information generated fromthe computer model. The AR system brings the computer into the "world"of the userby augmenting the environment with virtual objects. AR supplements reality, ratherthan completely replacing it.In AR, 3-D virtual objects are integrated into a 3-D real environment in real time.So, Augmented Reality refers to the combination of the real and the virtual to assistthe user in his environment.This thesis comprehensively introduces and analyses the conception,characteristics, applications, crux of Augmented Reality and its difference fromVirtual Reality. We analyses the configuration of AR system further, introduce thekey technologies of AR research, which include display, registration and tracking.The emphasis of this thesis is to expound the technology of AR tracking.Moreover, we analyze six classes of tracking technology, include magnetic tracking,Acoustic tracking,optic tracking,inertial tracking,computer-vision tracking andhybrid tracking.Lastly, we carry out a demo of AR system using Matlab. The trackingtechnology in the system is computer-vision one. We also get the Augmented Realitydisplay.
