Image registration is the process which uses one image(real time image) to map another image(standard image) so that corresponding coordinate points in the two images correspond to the same physical region of the scene being imaged. It is the foundation of image understanding and machine vision. Image registration is widely used in the fields such as industrial detection, measurement of remote sensing, biological medcial science, traffic management and image database search. When DSP(digital signal processor) comes out from the end of 70s, it has initiated the revolution of industrial design. DSP, with the characteristics of its stability, repeatability, large scale of integration, especially easy programming and easy realizing self-adapt disposal, has brought great opportunity to digital signal process. And further more, it makes signal handling means more flexible, function more complex and its applying field have extended to every aspect of national economy. This paper has designed a system of image registration using one of the most high speed DSPs of present world, TMS320C6711 produced by TI, as the kernel chip. And also has given specific description of hardware design, algorithm design and software process. As to hardware design, this paper gave the interfaces to EMPROM, FIFO, FLASH ROM and SDRAM in detail. As to software design, this paper described a multi-scale registration method. And in final registration, this paper gave the the image registration method on moment as well as gave the image registration method on NPROD respectively. At last, this paper has compared the two different methods of image registration and give the good and shortcomings to each.
