With the development of economic and the progress of science and technology, the traffic is developed rapidly today. So the high-efficient vehicle management and dredging is more and more important, and all these could not do without the traffic detection. After more than ten years development, video detection technology already ripe to apply in the traffic detection system and it has already got the acknowledging of generally professional personage, and represented the development direction of traffic detection. Through experiments on traffic detection we found that there are many disadvantages and defects when we applied the traditional method of movement goal detection based on luminance to gather the information of traffic flow. Although the traffic video detection system based on HSI color model has great improvement compared with RGB color model, I think that it still has a lot of defects. In the article, I have proposed a new traffic detection algorithm based on YUV color model. The advantages of the new method based on HSI color model are as follows: Most of general image file is saved in RGB color model. Compared to HSI, the transformation of RGB to YUV is comparatively easy. In YUV color model, U and V are color signals, which are against luminance information; this is an important advantage of YUV model. YUV color model has higher cluster's characteristics especially to those objects with the single color model to variable environment light. So we can distinguish this object from environment easily in YUV color model. This article also discussed the implement of the traffic video detection system based on YUV color model, which includes design principle of the System, structure of the system, the function of each module, etc. Keywords: Detection System of the Video, Color Space of YUV, Traffic Flow Stat., The Speed Measuring, ITS, Image Process.
