In recent years the explosion of the global data communication has driven the ever-increasing need for network bandwidth. WDM (WDM, the Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is extensive adoption. But the current WDM is the copular technique only working to point to point in the framework net, the business of IP still is presented through a multilayers network structure that adopts the IP over ATM or over SDH or over WDM. This kind of way not only has the layer function redundancy, but also the additional expense is huge. And the process at the core node needs to carry on the conversion of the O/E/O, the network speed is limited because of the existence of the electronics bottleneck. So the IP over WDM technique hopes to meet the demands of decrease layer structure. According to the correspondence mode which has been in the network, three kinds of communications projects in the WDM optical network have been put forward: OCS (the Optical Circuit Switching), OPS (the Optical Packet Switching), OBS (the Optical Burst Switching). OCS is the optical circuit switching which is researched widely and is oppositely more mature. OPS still is placed in to study the stage because of lacking of the high-speed optical logic device and optical buffer. OBS (Optical Burst Switching) possess the merits of both Optical Circuitry Switching (OCS) and Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and overcomes some flaws of these two kinds of Switching, so it becomes an efficient technology for the next generation IP over WDM network. This paper is mainly about the research and hardware implementation of OBS edge node sender schedule module. The article firstly introduces the background of the optical communication, then explain the system structure and key techniques of optical communication, and illuminate the function and the implement project of the edge node. Secondly this paper illuminates the network structure of this system supported by the "National 863 Plan". Thirdly, this paper introduces the demarcation principle and main function of each module. The hereafter of two chapters is the emphases content –the function demarcation, algorithm, hardware implementation and simulation of the schedule module.
