As the key component of the beam-wave interaction of a Traveling Wave Tube(TWT) for exciting microwave energy, the slow-wave structures (SWS) basicallydetermine the performance of the TWT. The grating is a classic example of a SWS,which has been used in a large number of microwave devices. In this dissertation, wehave made detailed theoretical study, numerical computing and experimental study onthe rectangular waveguide-gratings and the double-sided rectangularwaveguide-gratings. Several major and valuable achievements are listed as thefollowing:1. Under the condition of the high orders of the fields in the grooves are takeninto account, the method of eigenfunctions is used to study the RF characteristics ofthe rectangular waveguide-gratings SWS. The dispersion and the coupling impedanceof this structure are obtained. Through the numerical calculation, it is discussed thatthe influence of various circuit dimensions on the dispersion and the couplingimpedance.2. For the first time, under the condition of the high orders of the fields in thegrooves are taken into account, the linear theory of the rectangularwaveguide-gratings TWT is built and the dispersion equation with a sheet electron ofthis TWT is obtained according to self-consistent field theory and the field matchingmethod. The computation results of the hot dispersion equation indicate the relationsbetween the electron beam parameters and the small signal gain.3. Through thenumerical calculation, it is discussed that the influence of various circuit dimensionson the dispersion and the coupling impedance. The results show that for the symmetryof the structure, odd modes and even modes are in existence.4.
