Our work is based on the research - Theoretical and experimental study on ultrasound excitation and detection in layered materials induced by pulsed lasers. According to the request of laser ultrasonic detection and those advantages of fiber sensor, the application of fiber sensor in laser ultrasonic detection has been carried out in this paper. Based on a detail analysis of their working principle, the Fizeau fiber interferometer and Sagnac fiber interferometer have been self-made. Using these fiber interferometers we detected in aluminum the surface acoustic wave (SAW) excitated by laser pulse and made a comparison with other detection means. In the experiment, the waveform of laser SAW has been obtained and its velocity can be calculated through process of collected data. The experiments show the feasibility of fiber interferometer being used in laser-induced SAW detection, which claims the necessity of further research on such application.
