In the middle career school of guangdong province, the student attend the computer basis test every year. Formerly, the test mode is using software disk and network exam system based on C/S. As the former laid aside the data is not stability ,it is easy to lead the student lost their data. The latter's shortcoming is must install student database before exam every time and the program is difficult to extend. So that,This paper studies a design and project of the dynamic on-line test system based on XML and three-layer B/S.First,the thesis describes the background of computer basis test and the on-line test key technologies. Discussing the dynamic ASP developing technology and the developing history of XML,achieve the test depiction by XML and how to combination ASP and XML. The paper introduce the Data Mining technologies, the high effected and shared data bases can be built in adaptive test system. The project can offer test in any time and any place. At the same time, the project can make evaluating more preciseness and impersonality. Students can know his studying situation and get intellectualized advices by analyzing information from test records. Pointing out the traditional test's defect and then tells the test based on the network is the development direction in future. Especially, the computerized adaptive test mode will be turn to mainstream.Secondly, the author analyze status and development of computer-based test and CAT Test. A brief introduction to the mathematical model, Item Response Theroy is presented. The difference between Item Response Theory and Classical Test Theory is also pointed out. Thirdly, this paper puts forward the construct theories of item pools based on IRT and the implement of the algorithm to resolve model selection and item parameters estimating.After that, The structural framework of the on-line test system has been built, and main functions of the system have been completed. The web_based examine system is based on threejayer construction, which consist of present layer/middle layer/data layer. User interface is in the present layer. Core deal logic is in the middle layer. Data is stored in the data layer.Computer basis course CAT system Introduced in detail about the system collectivity structure, fine design of the system modules, and some other problems and correlative technology. And describe the course of how the forenamed system practically implement, stress on the implement of test module.Composed of manager subsystem, exercises base subsystem, exam papers setting subsystem and test subsystem. The system allows teachers and students to visit the database by browser on the side of client. The system has functions of inquiring, data base managing, exam papers setting and managing, examination managing, controlling exam process management, grading the exam paper management, saving archives management and so on. The system supports a scheme to the network exam. At last the performance evaluation is given.
