Microwave switch is the basic component of the microwave control circuit, it is widely used in the radar, electronic-war, microwave communication, satellite communication and microwave measurement systems etc. High power microwave switch is one of the key components for all kinds of radar systems, whose performance index is heavily determined by the microwave switch.Downhill simplex method is used in this paper to optimize the stripline PIN diode switch. The usual method to broaden the bandwidth of the PIN diode switch is combining the PIN diodes with stub filters: when under reverse bias, the didoe is part of the filter ,the transmission bandwidth is broadened; when under forward bias, the structure of the filter is destroyed, signal is isolated. The parasitic parameters of the encapsulated PIN diode must be tuned because they do great harm to the switch performance. Using separate tuning components would make the circuit complex and difficult to realize, so with the help of the optimization methods, we use the stubs of the filter as the tuning components. When the PIN diode switch works in the high power condition, its working temprature determines its service life. Accurately calculating the diode's temprature rising curve can guide the design of the high power swithch, avoiding the quick damage of the switch by the high power. In this paper , we summarize the method of thermal design and life expectancy for the high power PIN diode switch , make the computation program to realize the optimization design, thermal design and life expectancy all together.A stripline SPST switch is made by the method of this paper and tested to verify the method and the program of this paper.
